Have you ever wanted to change a column title within an Awesome Table app but couldn’t change it in the spreadsheet? There is a workaround via queries that will make your life a lot easier! While using queries is slightly technical, we will walk you through how to do this step-by-step.
In Awesome Table, queries are used to ask the app to display the content in a certain way, all without touching the data from the spreadsheet. So if you want to do things like change the name of a column, filter out columns, reorder columns, only show rows based on certain criteria, or sort data, you can do so via queries. Today we are going to dive into how to rename columns.
To show how simple it is to rename a column, we will walk through a simple example using an app that showcases board games. From the edit page of Awesome Table click the Advanced Parameters dropdown menu. There you will find a field titled Query.
To change the name of a column, a query has to be written telling the system what column has to change. This can be done by referring to the data sheet. The title we want to change is Complexity and we want to make it say Difficulty. As can be seen in the data below, the column we want to change is column F.
Now we have to go back to the app and type in a query so that the app knows to change column F. The query will look like this: select * label F 'Difficulty'.
Once you put this in the Query field and click update app at the bottom you are done!
